Activate 2FA on your account

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an electronic authentication method where a user is granted access to a website or application only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence (or factors) to an authentication mechanism. These two factors include knowledge (something only the user knows e.g. a 6-digit authentication code and something in their possession e.g. a mobile device or an email account.

Which Form of Two-Factor Authentication Should I Use?

We offer two types of 2FA for our customers. You can choose to enable 2FA via the Google Authenticator app OR, via email authentication. You can easily switch between either if needed. Both options provide the same functionality but deliver it in different ways. So, which one is right for you?

If you’re comfortable using mobile devices, downloading apps, using QR codes, and have your phone with you all the time, then using Google Authenticator might be the right choice for you. Using the app takes a little bit more time to set up than email, but once it’s up and running, it’s simply a matter of navigating to the Google Authenticator app, finding the 6-digit authentication code, and typing it into the verification field when you want to log on to the console. Super easy.

To remain highly productive, some people leave their phones in another room so they don’t get distracted. Sometimes it’s all too easy to pick up your phone, log in, and “just quickly check” your favourite social media site only to surface hours later and wonder where your day has gone. If you’re that person, best use email.

If you’re someone who keeps dropping your phone from high places, spilling mocha-chock-super-frap-lattes on it, leaving it in the back of your Uber ride, or generally not having it on your person at all times, the app is probably not the right choice for you.

Most people with a computer are familiar and comfortable with using email. It’s also something that you already have and is already on your Vigo Group Domain Name account. If you’re sitting at your desk, working on the console, then chances are, your email inbox is a few clicks away. If this is the case, email might be the right option for you. It’s super simple to use, and no need to install apps or reach for your phone. When you log on, you’ll be sent an email with the 6-digit authentication code. Simply copy and paste the code into the verification field to log on, and away you go.

How do I activate Two-Factor Authentication in my Console?

  1. Login to your account
  2. Navigate to Account > Account Settings
  3. Enable Two Factor Authentication either with Google Authenticator OR Two Factor Authentication with email.
